Uzi’s Journey: Building Confidence Through Consistency

Uzi’s time with us was a long one, and saying goodbye at the end of it was not easy.

She stayed with BOSS Co. for more than 50 days, including approximately two weeks of focused training. During that time, we saw a remarkable transformation in her confidence, behaviour and ability to cope around other dogs.

Where Uzi Started

When Uzi first arrived, she was highly reactive in her kennel and showing clear signs of stress around other dogs.

She required kennel blinders, had no interaction with other dogs inside or outside, and barked frequently when dogs were nearby. She was overwhelmed by her environment and needed time, consistency and a carefully managed approach.

Building Trust and Reducing Reactivity

Throughout her stay, Uzi was given the opportunity to settle into a structured environment while we gradually worked on her reactivity.

Using carefully planned counter-conditioning sessions, consistent handling and controlled exposure, she began to make meaningful progress.

By the end of her stay, Uzi was able to spend time outside while other dogs were present on the opposite side of a secure fence. Dogs could also walk past and approach her kennel without triggering the same level of reactivity we had seen when she first arrived.

Progress Beyond Reactivity

Uzi also made significant progress with obedience.

She was not highly food motivated and initially found it difficult to engage with us, so building trust and communication became an important part of the process.

As her confidence grew, so did her ability to focus. Her recall improved significantly, and she became more responsive and engaged throughout her training.

A Hard Goodbye

After more than 50 days together, Uzi had become a very familiar part of life at BOSS Co., which made seeing her leave especially difficult.

We are incredibly grateful to her owners for trusting us with her care and for giving Uzi the time and support she needed to make progress.

Her story is a reminder that meaningful behavioural change can take time, consistency and an environment where a dog feels supported enough to learn.
